Blackstar crouched in a pile of pine needles, taking great care not to disturb the small, claw-like leaves so as not to alert her prey. Her black fur blending into the many different shades of the quagmire known as ShadowClan territory, she found herself to be in a good predicament. A green tree snake was sifting through the litter that covered the ground, making its way for a mouse hole dug in between the roots of a tree. Blackstar, weighing the odds, took several paw steps forward, inching closer to the reptile. Of course, it didn't sense her.
Snakes were easy catches, for they were simple to track and attack, but they could do the same and give one a bite to remember! So, with caution, the ShadowClan leader continued to advance. With a low hiss, she pounced the creature as it neared the tree, grabbing its head with her jaws. Crushing the skull, she was successful without causing herself harm. Dropping the dead snake at her paws, she let out a sigh. She was getting old, but at least she could still catch things. This thought didn't reassure all that much, but she couldn't just loaf around being depressed.
With a lash of her tail, she pricked her ears and looked around for signs of small life.
